Words from our Baroness (Dame) Isobel Mowbray and Baron Guthfrith Yrlingson

our baron and baroness in court with the baroness addressing the audience

“We both joined the SCA over 20 years ago in Lochac (Australia), but have called Ruantallan home for the past fourteen years.

Our personas are firmly rooted in late fifteenth century England these days (despite the C10th Danish name Guthfrith…hmmm). Guthfrith has a wide range of interests including heavy, rapier and siege combat, archery, woodworking, metalworking and miscellaneous A&S. Isobel’s main passion is C15th costuming, but any A&S and particularly anything that creates more C15th ambience is fun (Isobel also looks forward to acquiring a longbow and learning to shoot things more accurately). Occasionally you may see us disguised as sixth century Anglo-Saxons.

We hope to encourage each and every member of the Barony of Ruantallan to fulfil their potential, thus building a strong and talented Barony. The SCA is a wonderful place to practice all manner of arts, be it combat, costuming, calligraphy, cooking or catapulting, so get involved and try things out!

We would also like to encourage all members of the Barony, new and old, to consider giving what service you are able to help this group run and prosper. Our events, courts and very existence rely on volunteers… as please ask us or others to find out what you can do to help. Become a Curia member, run or help to run an event, prepare a scroll, help clean up after a feast… the opportunities are endless!

We would love to get feedback from around the Barony, both positive and negative… you can contact us at:
